I think there is a quintessential date outfit, or at least that's what movies and magazines tell me. A woman should wear high heels and a form fitting dress. I have more problems with this than I would like to admit. Let's just run through my top three:
- I like to be comfortable, and french fries are great date food. No one is embarrassed while eating french fries. That form fitting dress doesn't seem as appealing after a few friendly beers and fries.
- Aren't form fitting dresses what sluts wear? How do I distinguish myself from them? Is there some kind of "form fitting dresses for tall girls" store? Likewise is there a "tall dudes for tall girls" store because I'm not trying to tower over boys in my high heels.
- In the winter, I like to wear pants. Then no one has to touch prickly legs due to a bad case of goosebumps caused by my decision to wear a cute skirt and tights. Over share, but come on ladies, you've been there too. Don't pretend like you haven't.
My favorite kinds of dates are:
- after work, so I just get to wear cute, but work appropriate clothes
- at bars where no one would dream of wearing a dress much less a form fitting dress
- with a boy who isn't actually that into heels and bandage dresses
I'm not Kim Kardashian, so I'm not going to pretend like I am. I'm not really sure why I think a bandage dress is a date night look, but it's never gonna happen. Maybe this is why I'm single. For further insight, please watch the pilot of
The Mindy Project.
