In my opinion, the answer to "Who am I?" is ever evolving based on one's experiences. In your mid-twenties, life is not as clear cut and I find myself surrounded by friends who are trying to figure out where their path is going to take them.
Our envy drives us.
I find myself chasing down others' experiences. One day, I want to be a yoga instructor. The next, I'm ready to plant community gardens for schools. By the third day, I'm planning my cross country road trip for when I start a new life on the west coast without a job.
Celebrities warn us.
Remember when Lindsay Lohan starred in The Parent Trap? Yes, it was a must-have soundtrack and VHS for me in middle school, and now a friendly reminder to stay away from drugs and lovers who are full-time DJs.
Romance confuses us.
Do I want a boyfriend who might one day be my husband? Ek commitment! Do I want a man friend who will co-parent my dog and take my laptop's coveted spot next to me in my bed? Yes please!
Needless to say, you can tell we're only a few years out of undergrad or grad school - still wanting to be a part of a club, believing that a dream job that is both fulfilling and requires only 40 hours a week exists, and wondering if our okcupid profile should suggest that we're looking for friendship, a hookup, or a relationship, much like we had to decide when creating our Facebook page immediately upon receiving a college email account.
